Cupe Local 474 is hiring a Business Agent. This position will require the chosen candidate to provide member representation at return to work, duty to accommodate and discipline meetings including counselling the membership on rights, obligations and conduct in regards to their employment.
The chosen candidate will assist with Grievance, Negotiation, Workers Compensation Board, Alberta School Employee Benefits, and Financial documentation as required.
The position will be required to perform some clerical duties, for example; answering telephone inquiries, Canada Post mail distribution, assisting with invoices, filing documents and letters, crafting of professional letters for membership and the Union, monitoring and responding to email correspondence, creating grievance documents, booking of appointments for member representation and leaves of absence, booking of travel and accommodation for conferences as well as assist with the Union newsletters’ construction and distribution. The chosen candidate for this position will also be involved in updating and maintaining all office documents including member information, staffing levels, square footage, seniority and motions. In addition the chosen candidate will be expected to act as a privacy officer.
Qualifications: Knowledge of; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Personal Information and Protection Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Desired Attributes: Leadership, Dedication, Integrity, independent worker, excellent verbal and written skills, complete knowledge and understanding of all Local 474 Collective Agreements, knowledge of labour law, knowledge of Edmonton Public Schools, Operation Friendship Senior Society, Salvation Army and Alberta Workers Health Centre policies as well as knowledge of Employment Standards, OHS regulations and Labour Relation Acts.
Desired Education: CUPE Steward Learning Series or equivalent, Financial Officers Training, Duty to Accommodate, Bargaining, WCB Advocacy.
Compensation: This will be a one year term position from July 1 to June 30 of each year with a review and option of renewal before April 30 of each year. Should the successful candidate come from within the membership of CUPE 474, this will be a seconded position. Salary will start at $38.40 per hour with benefits and increases in accordance with Edmonton Public School Board Collective Agreement. There will be no overtime associated with this position. Out of Pocket expenses will be $210 monthly as well as normal per diems paid in accordance with CUPE 474 bylaws.
